Grief has a way of making the present feel permanent.
When loss has changed so much, it can become difficult to imagine life ever feeling different from the way it feels right now. You may know that God is still with you and still believe what Scripture says, yet part of you may quietly wonder whether this pain will always define the future.
Your Sorrow Is Not the Whole Story is a free printable SOAP Bible study on 2 Corinthians 4:16–18 designed to help you look honestly at what grief has made visible while also making room for what faith asks you to trust beyond what you can see.
This study will not ask you to minimize your loss, hurry your grief, or pretend that everything is fine. Instead, it will help you begin enlarging the horizon around your sorrow.
What You’ll Explore in This Study
As you work through the passage, you will:
- Look closely at Paul’s contrasts between what is outward and inward, temporary and eternal, seen and unseen
- Identify the part of your grief that currently feels permanent
- Name what you can see right now and what Scripture asks you to trust beyond it
- Recognize where grief may have caused you to stop imagining a future
- Consider one small way to begin making room for life again without betraying what you lost
- Bring your fear, guilt, and uncertainty honestly before God in prayer
The goal is not to convince yourself that your sorrow is small.
It is to remember that your sorrow, however real and painful it is, does not get to define everything that comes next.

Making Room for Life Does Not Mean Leaving Grief Behind
One of the hardest parts of grief can be allowing yourself to imagine that life may still hold something ahead.
You may feel guilty for laughing again, making a new memory, planning something, enjoying something, or hoping for something you did not expect after your loss. It can feel as though making room for life somehow means making less room for the person, relationship, dream, or future you loved.
It does not.
You can carry love forward while allowing life to open again. You can remember what was lost and still receive what God places in front of you now. You can grieve honestly without allowing grief to close every door ahead.
This study will help you take one small step in that direction.
Your sorrow is part of your story, but it is not the whole story.
