Staying Connected to Jesus
Key Verse: John 15:5: Apart from Me you can do nothing.
Opening Thought
A new week begins with plans, responsibilities, and expectations. It does not take long before the pressure builds and the pace quickens. Most of us step into the week ready to manage it, organize it, and carry it on our own. That instinct feels natural, but it quietly leads us away from the very source of life and strength.
Jesus speaks directly into that tendency with a statement that is both simple and unsettling.
Devotional Thought
When Jesus says, “Apart from Me you can do nothing,” He is not exaggerating. He is not dismissing effort or discipline. He is exposing a deeper truth. A life disconnected from Him may still appear productive, but it will lack what truly matters. It will not produce lasting fruit.
The tension is easy to recognize. We know we need Jesus, but we often move through our days as if everything depends on us. We rely on our ability to think clearly, work hard, and stay organized. None of those things are wrong, but they are not meant to replace dependence on Christ. When they do, we begin to carry weight we were never designed to carry.
Jesus does not call us to try harder. He calls us to remain in Him. To abide is to stay connected, to draw life from Him, to return again and again to His presence. This is not a one-time decision at the start of the week. It is a continual posture.
Begin the week connected to Him.
Return to Him when the middle of the week feels heavy.
Finish the week still abiding, trusting that He is the one producing fruit in your life.
Reflection Questions
- Where am I relying on my own strength instead of staying connected to Jesus?
- What would it look like for me to intentionally remain in Him this week?
Closing Prayer
Lord, I confess how quickly I try to handle life on my own. Remind me that I need You in every moment. Help me stay connected to You throughout this week. Produce in me what only You can.
Amen.

- Begin each day by returning to Him. When the middle of the week feels heavy, pause and reconnect. As the week comes to an end, trust Him with what is unfinished.
