Grief does not disappear because you believe in Jesus. You can trust God, believe in eternal life, and still deeply miss someone who has died. A familiar place can feel different without them. A date on the calendar can suddenly become heavy. A memory can bring gratitude and pain at the same time.

In 1 Thessalonians 4:13–18, Paul does not tell Christians not to grieve. He reminds us that we do not grieve without hope.

We Do Not Grieve Without Hope is a free printable SOAP Bible study designed to help you bring the reality of loss honestly before God while holding onto the hope made possible through Jesus’ death and resurrection.

What You’ll Explore in This Study

As you work through the passage, you will:

  • Look closely at what Paul says about grief, death, resurrection, and reunion
  • Name what you most miss about the person who died
  • Identify the thought or fear that makes death feel especially final
  • Place that fear beside the specific hope Scripture gives you
  • Consider what Jesus’ resurrection means for your grief personally
  • Choose one truth from the passage to return to when grief becomes strong again
  • Bring both your sorrow and your hope honestly before God in prayer

This study will not ask you to stop grieving or pretend the absence hurts less.

It will help you remember that death does not get the final word.

You Can Miss Someone Deeply and Still Hold Onto Hope

Christian hope does not erase tears. Paul points grieving believers to Jesus. Christ died and rose again. Because He rose, Scripture can speak about resurrection, reunion, and a future in which those who belong to Him will be with the Lord forever. Some days, that hope may feel strong. Other days, the missing may feel stronger. You do not have to choose between the two. You can miss the person you love and still believe that Jesus rose. You can feel the pain of separation while trusting that death has not written the final ending.

Christian grief carries tears, but it also carries resurrection.
